Generation Four

8. GIAMBATTISTA⁴ FUSCO (known as Nicolas) was born on 1 August 1869 in Tursi, Matera, Basilicata, Italy, and died on 20 March 1934 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio. He married his cousin MARIANTONIA⁴ FUSCO (Filippo Francesantonio³, Nicola Maria², Pascale¹) about 18 April 1891, probably in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio. She was born on 15 November 1872 in Tursi, Matera, Basilicata, Italy, and died on 13 June 1938 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio.¹

When his father-in-law died in 1901, it appears the grocery store at 323 Langley closed. In 1906, Nicolas and Mariantonia were living with her mother and brother Leonard. Leonard was working as a tailor at 50 E Park Avenue and running a saloon out of the 323 Langley residence. At the time, Nicolas was working as a furnaceman. By 1908, the saloon was gone, and Nicolas had opened a grocery at the 323 Langley address. The business appears to have done well and in 1919, the grocery was at 304 Pratt and known as N Fusco and Son, (his son Frank was an employee but was serving in the military at the time, son John and daughter Lucy worked at the grocery, James was a student, Joseph worked at Penna Co., and Patrick was an attorney), while Nicholas and the family (including Patrick’s wife Lucy) lived at 104 Fulton.²

But life changed. In 1932 Nicolas no longer operated the grocery and was working as a laborer probably at The Niles Fire Brick Co., Frank was a salesman, John was a teller at Dollar Savings Bank, Lucy was an assistant at the McKinley Memorial Library, James was living at home with no employment listed in the directory (the following year he was living in Lima, Allen, Ohio and working as secretary to Congressman Frank L Kloeb), Joseph drowned in 1921, Patrick was doing well in his law practice, Philip owned an insurance agency, and Eugene was a student.³

Known children of Nicolas Fusco and Mariantonia Fusco were:

i. PATRICK NICOLAS⁵ FUSCO was born on 25 November 1893 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 26 November 1953 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio. He married ADELE CAIAZZA about 6 November 1924 in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. She was born on 29 July 1894 in Riardo, Caserta, Campania, Italy, and died on 22 September 1988 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio.⁴

ii. FRANK ANTHONY⁵ FUSCO was born on 24 October 1895 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 27 September 1974, probably in New Hartford, Oneida, New York. He married NETTIE (née CROMER) DECKER between 1940 and 1950. She was born in 1901 in New York and died in 1991, probably in Oneida County, New York.⁵

+ 9 iii. JOHN H.⁵ FUSCO was born on 15 June 1897 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 23 December 1964 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio. He married FRANCES AVELLONE on 17 September 1925 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. She was born about 1902 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, and died on 19 December 1988 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio.⁶

iv. MARY⁵ FUSCO (also known as Lagretta, Louisa, or Lucy) was born on 22 November 1898 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio. She married VINCENT RAGAZZA on 15 July 1933 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio. He was born on 24 October 1889 in Tursi, Matera, Basilicata, Italy.⁷

v. JOSEPH⁵ FUSCO was born on 23 December 1900 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 27 April 1921 in Weathersfield, Niles, Trumbull, Ohio.⁸

vi. JAMES EDWARD⁵ FUSCO was born on 26 April 1902 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 25 October 1968 in Upper Arlington, Franklin, Ohio. He married MARY BERNICE GILLIVAN on 26 December 1933 in Franklin County, Ohio. She was born on 23 September 1908 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio.⁹

vii. SALVADORE⁵ (also known as Samuel) FUSCO was born on 13 December 1907 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 10 April 1960 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio. He married RUTH HELENE CUNNINGHAM on 14 November 1931 in Franklin County, Ohio. She was born on 11 June 1908 in Girard, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 22 June 1990 in Westerville, Franklin, Ohio.¹⁰

viii. PHILIP⁵ FUSCO was born on 20 June 1909 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 7 November 1992 in Littleton, prob. Arapahoe, Colorado. He married JUNE VIVIAN EVANS around 17 August 1938, probably in Geneva, Ashtabula County, Ohio. She was born on 10 June 1914 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 19 January 2002 in Savannah, Chatham, Georgia.¹¹

ix. EUGENE MILES⁵ FUSCO was born on 1 October 1911 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 15 December 1974 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio. He married NANCY COLE WALKER on 26 July 1941 in Danville, Virginia. She was born on 13 October 1917 in Henrico County, Virginia, and died on 7 September 2006 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio.¹²

x. ROSINA⁵ FUSCO was born on 16 June 1919 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 11 August 1919 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio.¹³

Generation Five

9. JOHN H.⁵ FUSCO (GIAMBATTISTA⁴, PASCALE³, Nicola Maria², Pascale¹) was born on 15 June 1897 in Youngstown, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 23 December 1964 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio. He married FRANCES AVELLONE on 17 September 1925 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. She was born about 1902 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, and died on 19 December 1988 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio.¹⁴

After leaving his father’s grocery, John became a clerk at Dollar Savings Bank in Niles around 1920. By 1930, he was married and owned his home on W. Woodland in Niles. It appears he never left the bank, and by 195,0 he had worked his way up to vice president, working 45 hours a week.¹⁵

Known children of John H. Fusco and Frances Avellone were:

i. JOHN NICHOLAS⁶ FUSCO was born on 14 March 1927 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, and died on 6 March 2017 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio. He married ELSIE (née GRAFFINS) GOUGH on 20 June 1957 in Steuben County, Indiana, and they were divorced on 6 January 1969 in Trumbull County, Ohio. She was born on 5 December 1925 in Struthers, Mahoning, Ohio, and died on 19 July 1985, probably in Youngstown, Trumbull, Ohio.¹⁶

ii. MARILYN⁶ FUSCO was born on 2 February 1931 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 1 May 2000 in Orlando, Orange, Florida. She married WILLIAM HENRY SCHNEPP on 4 July 1953 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and they were divorced on 15 March 1974 in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was born on 24 October 1928 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, and died on 24 October 2013 in Palm Harbor, Pinellas, Florida.¹⁷

iii. RICHARD CHARLES⁶ FUSCO was born on 2 November 1932 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 2 November 1982 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio. He married LUCILLE ERMALINDA FRANCO on 15 July 1954 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio. She was born on 26 June 1933 in Niles, Trumbull, Ohio, and died on 30 June 1983 in Warren, Trumbull, Ohio.¹⁸
